The 9th Thai Football Supporters' Football Tournament at RIS Swiss Section set a record for the number of youth teams.
Thirteen teams participated in the U9 and U11 tournaments. Even the German school in Chiang Mai sent a team to Bangkok. These children coming from northern Thailand were accommodated with host families - many thanks to all the families for your hospitality.
The coaches and their teams arrived on time and were in a good mood to play. It was an international football tournament with newcomers from Thailand, France (the Lycée Français sent two teams to the U11 tournament), England, USA, Germany, Switzerland and many other countries. In the bright sunshine, all participants had a lot of fun and there were many exciting games to see.
The final of the U11 was played on the field of our own Swiss Section and the spectators were enthusiastic. Ascot and Berkeley ran a close match, with the game being decided by penalties. Ascot was the lucky winner.
The medal ceremony for the U11 was carried out by H.E. Ivo Sieber, the Ambassador of Switzerland. The winners of the U9 tournament were congratulated by the Minister of the German Embassy, Dr. Peer Gebauer. Each participant received a certificate. The victorious teams received trophies. The players from the top three teams also received a medal.
The high class, yet always fair adult tournament concluded after the end of the youth tournament. The "German Allstars" took first place, "I-Play" (a football academy) second, and the "Perfect Boyz" came in third. The winners of the adult tournament had the honour to receive their trophies and medals from the German Ambassador, his Excellency Peter Prügel.
Particularly noteworthy are the new aluminium goals on the lawn, which were donated by a father of one of our RIS Swiss Section students. They were made by a metal company, so that a proper football tournament could be held at RIS Swiss Section.
A big thanks goes out to the Thai.Ger supporters and all volunteers for their commitment in the preparation and execution of the tournament. There was a successful and versatile program for the children at the school as well. Everyone‘s overall well-being was well taken care of.
Next year will be the 10th Thai.Ger tournament, about which we are already excited
