Special Week 2019 at Sri Sangwan School in Khon Kaen
As part of their Social Project Week, the 7th Grade of RIS Swiss Section – Deutschsprachige Schule Bangkok travelled to Khon Kaen from 9 – 13 June 2019 to volunteer at a school for mentally and physically challenged children, where they did activities such as an art workshop, running a school lesson, organising a party for the children and taking part in a field trip.
The Sri Sangwan School in Khon Kaen offers education and housing for 220 children and young people with a wide variety of disabilities.
As most students come to that school from relatively poor families and must pay tuition fees. There is a lack of funds available to the school for supplies and materials. Therefore the students of grade 7 were very grateful for the generous support of the social project by the whole school community. The more than generous donations allowed us to support 16 students and pay all their fees and expenses for one year. With all the other material donations, we supported the students in our partner school with almost 200,000 THB! This amount really makes a difference for these children!
During the project week which took place for the 8th time, the students took responsibility for different activities and it was delightful to see all the students from both schools actively engaged. This year the students had the chance to run an English language workshop. On the second day they visited the Aura Farm together with 15 students from the Sri Sangwan School. On the last day there was the traditional student party and a chance to have fun and enjoy sweets and ice cream together. Finally, the students prepared a photo presentation for the audience and performed a song for them. It was again a very inspiring and impressive Social Week in Khon Kaen.
