Federal Department of Home Affairs / Federal Office of Culture

The Federal Office of Culture belongs to the Federal Department of Home Affairs. It supports and promotes the education of young Swiss abroad by funding 18 Swiss schools on four continents. They are supervised by the local Swiss Embassies. Hence, Swiss children and adolescents living on foreign soil have the opportunity to enjoy an education based upon Swiss principles and to maintain close links with their home country. It also allows them to transfer to schools in Switzerland or into the country’s higher education system at any given moment. Swiss cultural presence abroad is also promoted as Swiss schools are important hubs for different cultures to encounter.

Educationsuisse is the coordination agency for the 18 Swiss schools abroad. Their main task is to represent the interests of these schools in relation to the public, economy and authorities in Switzerland. Each summer, they organize an annual three-day conference of Swiss schools abroad where school presidents and directors meet to attend panels and workshops, exchange information and best practices.

The canton of Lucerne is the sponsor canton of RIS Swiss Section-Deutschsprachige Schule Bangkok. Each Swiss school abroad is pedagogically and administratively supervised by at least one canton. They support the advantageous purchase of school material, student exchange activities, recruitment and preparatory training for new teaching staff as well as further training for existing teaching staff. Financial aid may also be provided in case of investment projects. Furthermore, they pay regular evaluation visits to the schools.

Central Agency for German Schools Abroad (ZfA)

RIS Swiss Section-Deutschsprachige Schule Bangkok is also part of the network of 140 German schools abroad that are sponsored by the Central Agency for Schools Abroad (ZfA) on behalf of the German Federal Foreign Office. With financial support and excellent teachers from the Federal Republic of Germany, students of German schools abroad may obtain a bilingual education and German school leaving certificates.

Standing Conference of the Ministers of Education and Cultural Affairs (KMK) The Standing Conference of the Ministers of Education and Cultural Affairs (Kultusministerkonferenz or KMK) is a collective body comprising the ministers of education and cultural affairs from Germany’s 16 federal states (Länder). The KMK aims to ensure coordination and consistency in education policy and cultural affairs across the country. It addresses issues such as curriculum standards, teacher qualifications, and mutual recognition of diplomas and degrees. The conference facilitates cooperation between the federal states to promote a cohesive educational and cultural landscape in Germany.

ISAT

RIS Swiss Section-Deutschsprachige Schule Bangkok is a member of the International Schools Association of Thailand (ISAT), established in 1994. The International Schools Association of Thailand (ISAT) is an organization that represents and supports international schools in Thailand. Its primary objectives include promoting high standards in education, fostering collaboration among member schools, and advocating on behalf of international education in Thailand.

Ruamrudee International School (RIS), founded in 1957 by the Roman-Catholic Congregation of the Redemptorists, is one of the longest established international schools in Thailand. For licensing reasons, the RIS Swiss Section is registered as the German-speaking department of RIS. More than 1000 students studying at RIS, either according to the US curriculum or the International Baccaulaureate (IB) program, share a common school infrastructure (auditorium, English-language library, canteen, clinic, swimming pools and many other sports facilities) with our Swiss Section students. Furthermore, RIS shares a number of administrative services with our school.
