Student Leadership
The Students' Council (Schülermitverantwortung - SMV)
Democratic values are fundamental pillars of RIS Swiss Section. Student co-responsibility enables students to actively participate in decision-making processes and take responsibility for school life. By participating in school projects, working groups, and student councils in key committees, students learn to work as a team, make compromises, and make democratic decisions. These experiences prepare them for their role as responsible global citizens. Another important aspect is the strengthening of the sense of community and social competence. Students develop a stronger sense of responsibility for their school and their own actions, which strengthens their self-confidence and motivates them to continue to engage. Overall, they learn that they are not just recipients of education but also active shapers of their learning environment and future.
The SMV (Student Council) engages in various projects like organizing events, conducting reading sessions, initiating waste management activities, and designing school hoodies, nurturing social, emotional, and leadership skills. Continuous improvement is key to excellence, and we apply this by seeking annual feedback from students across all grades to enhance our teaching methods. Beyond the classroom, older students tutor younger peers, fostering empathy, leadership, and confidence, which strengthens school community bonds and promotes a supportive learning environment.
